A yellowish-orange variant form of P. boissieri seems to have been photographed in Turkish Kurdistan by Karen Nichols (photo 2887571252 [corolla-lobes orbicular, overlapping], accessed Jul 2010) [see "This plant has an orange flower and a morphology different than the species above. This could be a new species! Turkish Kurdistan" (SIUC (Parasitic Plant Connection), accessed Feb 2006)]. "Dimopoulos et al. (2013) treated both the Greek and Macedonian populations as P. coccinea (M. Bieb.) Poir." (Barina & al. 2015: 131, sub P. boissieri). According to Roskov & al. (2015) P. boissieri is a synonym of P. coccinea and P. helenae is here considered to be an independent species.
