Iberian Peninsula distribution. In the Mediterranean Basin it was widely confused in the literature with Phelipanche ramosa (L.) Pomel and Phelipanche nana (F.W. de Noë ex Rchb. fil.) Soják. Therefore, many historical and recent records may be refereble to Phelipanche nana (F.W. de Noë ex Rchb. fil.) Soják.

Unknown location: "Branched broomrape (Orobanche ramosa) poses the greatest threat to Australian crops and is only known to occur as an isolated infestation in the Murray Bridge area of South Australia. N.B.: From the photos and descriptions seen on the Internet, most, if not all, references to "Orobanche ramosa" (as nonnative weed in Australia) correspond to P. mutelii. Measures have been taken for the eradication and control to prevent their area of infestation (potentially very large in southern and eastern Australia) exceeding the small area south of the country where it lives today, parasitizing several crops and various alien and native Compositae species (Carlón & al.008: 22, sub P. mutelii).

France / Francia / Frankreich [unconfirmed]

We have not yet seen any material that demonstrates unequivocally the presence of Phelipanche mutelii in France. It is clear, however, that the species would be in any event truly rare in the country, since only a few examples (of many studied in MPU) could perhaps correspond to it. This will be seen in the field as soon as possible (Carlón & al. 2008: 30).
